Many individuals relocate everyday for one reason or another and many do so for changes in career, to be closer to family or simply because they want a change of venue. There are other important reasons for moving such as, convenience, better job opportunities, educational purposes and more. For most, relocating is all about wanting to live in the country and for just as many it can be all about living in a big metropolis or city. Where we choose to live, has great bearing on how we as individuals think, work and play.

The importance of relocating out of all the reasons why people do, is in relation to happiness. Where you will live in society and as a person in general rests on happiness. Many people do not realize that where they live has a direct impact on who they are as individuals and how they respond to all aspects of life and our surroundings. For instance may people who live in crowded or close-knit areas around the globe, often have high stress levels, for others not so much. Depending on your living situation, relocation can give instant gratification and happiness. Others who live in rural or without close neighbors in proximity to where they live, can be found longing for more interaction with people and can have its disadvantages as well.

Advantages and disadvantage are abound for both living situations and relocating to another town or even to another continent. The importance of relocating can come from living closer to friends or family, closer to public accessible businesses and services. Since the beginning of time, living close to one another has been a normal way of life and relocation of many cultural groups has allowed us to experience other individuals and their ways of living. Many nomadic tribes make relocating a way of life and do it very often, while others may spend their lifetime in the same town having never even seen an ocean or mountain. Relocating for most is a luxury we simply cannot afford if done for just the sake of it, but if we are able or must relocate, it can open our eyes to wonderful and exciting possibilities we may have never thought of.

Relocating can build new communities and enhance old ones. Many individuals around the globe are sometimes forced into relocating and is not always a bad thing. It helps to open language barriers, our minds to accepting others that may seem different to us and opens possibilities in many avenues. Relocation can be a way for us to start afresh, obtain better living conditions and increase our overall happiness and awareness of others. Relocation allows room for how we see others and respond to them and the world around us.

You may be thinking about moving soon and just the thought of all that there is to do can definitely make you more stressed out than you could ever imagine. There are many reasons why people come away from a move either feeling flustered as well as there are those who get to their new home and realize that they have forgotten quite a few things back at the old house.

In short, Murphy’s Law is a very big part of moving and it could very well happen if you do not adhere to the following moving suggestions and techniques that would result in a smooth transition to your new home.

One of the first rules is as with everything else in life is to have a game plan. The art of moving has so many levels attached to it that you need to ensure that have a “to do” checklist so that you can check off the things that you have done and get an idea what is left to do.

You will also be making your move a bit easier especially on your wallets if you were to budget your expenses in advance. Moving can be a bit expensive and so it is always wise to put aside a set amount of money each month prior to the months leading up to moving day. Remember to include everything from travel cost to insurance, of course your living expenses and not to mention the cash that you would also need to turn on your utilities and other services at the new home.

And speaking about utilities, ensure that you notify the electric company as well as the phone, cable and Internet company about your plans to move way ahead in advance. By doing this you are making sure that they can disconnect the services in time to get them over to your new place before you move in. You should also take this time to notify the post office about your change of address as well as to inform your physician of your intended move so that they can prepare updated medical records for you.

Make sure you have all your moving basis covered in terms of mover’s insurance. True, there are some moving companies that would insure your items but you have to figure out if their insurance coverage is right for you. There are some that provide partial coverage; if you seek a full coverage then you can shop around and see if you can locate one that would make it worthwhile.

Finally, it is so easy to launch into a panic attack when you are overwhelmed with what there is to be done when moving especially when one arrives to the task of packing. In order to conquer the fear of packing, it should also be done well in advance to allow time for sorting, throwing away or selling items, packing room by room before sealing and labeling. Once you have accomplished all the aforementioned, you can approach moving day with a broad smile on your face.

If you are moving soon from a rental house or apartment you must leave the place in immaculate condition if you want to get back your security deposit before moving out. When you decide to move you already know that you would have a lot on your plate in terms of packing, booking the moving company, changing address and switching off utilities… there is indeed a lot to be done. Because of this, most people tend to move from their old abode to the new, refusing to make that extra effort to tidy up their mess. This act is truly an offensive one to your previous landlord, especially if he has been an exemplary landlord conducting all transactions by the book. Moving professionals would tell you that even if you contract does not promise the return of your security deposit, tidying up before you leave your old premises would be the honorable thing to do.

You can start your tidying project by first getting rid of the expired foodstuff in both the cupboards and refrigerator before moving. After you have emptied by the refrigerator and cupboards, you can then move on to cleaning and wiping the refrigerator’s compartment one at a time.

Similarly, you can dust and wipe out cupboards before sweeping and mopping the floors. When you clean, try using a detergent that would not only clean effectively but one that would fill the room with a clean and fresh scent. If you have carpeted floors, try investing in some carpet cleaning agent before you run the vacuum.

A few days before the actual moving day you can write down the condition of the items that you met in the apartment when you moved in. The landlord would have his own inspection form and would also be documenting the aforementioned information as well.

When you have identified the damages etc. let your landlord know by inviting him over so that the both of you can perform a walk-through, identifying the problems along the way. If there were any items broken by you and your family, you can either volunteer to pay to have it fixed or perhaps you may suggest that he deducts some of repair fees from your security deposit.

Bear in mind that once your old home passes the landlord’s inspection it is highly suggested that you also tidy up and clean the new home as well even before moving in.

Nothing quite measures up the excitement and anticipation that one feels when having to move into a new home. Moving in itself can be somewhat challenging but once you have set the moving date you should start planning and organizing in advance to avoid the unnecessary stress.

The first step when thinking about moving is to first find a reputable moving company in your area. You would know how legitimate the company is if you were to check with the Better Business Bureau who would provide you with additional information about the company. Another way in which you can check out is by asking a moving company to provide you with a list of customer references; their feedback on the moving company could sway or encourage your judgment.

It is always advised that you choose at least six moving companies and then narrow them down to the one that is better suitable as regards to their costing on everything from packing to loading and unpacking again. You should also find out if the moving company offers insurance as well as this is a vital part of the move.

As soon as you get settled on selecting the movers you can turn your attention on packing your household items. To eliminate unwanted weight on the truck and not to mention space, it would be best if you were to sift through your personal items to see if there are anything that you can get rid of. There may be something in your home that you could either take to the dumpster as well as there may be some items that could be sold or donated. If there are items that you can sell then you should plan to have a tag sale a few weeks before you actually move. The money you make from the sale can very well go back into offsetting some of your moving expenses.

Next, on your moving to-do list is to start informing your Utilities Company, Cable Company, bank and insurance company about your impending move. If you are moving with children, this is the time that you should also be working on getting them into new schools in your new area.

A month before you move should be spent getting your packing done. Never leave packing for last minute; you do not want to leave anything behind. A good practice when moving is to always create a list of your inventory just to ensure that nothing goes astray. Also make a list of the items that you would be personally transporting to your new location. This includes your family’s medical documents, the children’s school reports and other like documents as well as jewelry and information and documents on your pets if you have them.

In addition, when packing, use sturdy boxes for moving and ensure to tape and label them so that the unpacking phase would be much easier for you to find things when you move. You would be doing yourself a world of good if you were to call the movers to confirm your moving day appointment just in case something may pop up at their end and they neglected to tell you within a reasonable amount of time.

If you are relocating soon, then it is probably you need to think of how to pack everything including electronics. It is essential to pack up electronic equipment safely so you will be able to enjoy it at your new home. Here are some tips that will help you to prepare your electronics for a move.

Mark each element before taking apart. If they’re not marked, it can take a long time to check which cables go where. So, before you start taking apart electronics, prepare some labels. Connecting back electronics will be much easier with some small tags on both the cord and the fitting place. You can either apply colored tags or markers to match cables and ports. Make sure the tags are securely attached so they won’t shift when you transport electronics. When it’s time to unpack your boxes, you will not be dragged in a web of cables. Alternatively, you may use a rubber to tie each loop of cable together. Cut down tension by folding cables together ready for arranging the equipment in a new home. Losing a cable is the worse thing that can happen. After you’ve unhooked the cables and tag them it’s time to start wrapping and packing electronics.

Find some decent type of bubble wrap. Many people will detect that basic packing supplies are not good to practice when packing electronic equipment. Some of them can in reality damage electronics. Packaging stores sell exceptional bubble wraps that are anti-static. This special material will save your electronics from harm. Wrap each electronic equipment individually in bubble wrap so that no pieces will snag together during the transportation. Then seal the entire thing.

Electronics equipment can now be packed. Place the bigger items down the bottom of the box and then place smaller items on top. Fill out empty fields of the box with more bubble wrap. And if possible, put smaller electronic equipments on top. Then ensure all holes are full with informal bubble wrap, so that nothing will shift during transportation.

Mark the box in an appropriate way. When you have ended packing your electronics, just need to seal the box with packing tape and mark consequently. Make sure to write ‘fragile’ and ‘heavy’ so that particular box will be cared with attention.

It’s nice to want to be able to move yourself when it comes to relocating but there are so many things that you have to take into consideration with a do-it-yourself that it is sometimes better if that you leave it all to the experts. One of the biggest parts of a do-it-yourself move is renting a vehicle.

The size of the vehicle depends on the amount of items that you have in your home. And while there are some companies that would assist you in choosing the right size truck, others won’t do it. So what do you do? You want to be careful not to take a truck that is too small so that your items don’t fit as well as you don’t want to take on a truck that is too big for your items to be sliding around either. Moving experts have devised a great way for you to estimate the type of truck that you should get for the amount of household items that you have.

These estimates are based on the cubic feet size of your home compared to the foot sizes of the trucks rented. So let’s say you are currently moving from a small one bedroom apartment which is around 350 cubic feet then it is recommended that you rent a 10 foot truck. Those with a two bedroom apartment that is close to 750 cubic feet should rent a 15-foot truck while a 3-4 bedroom home boasting 1,250 cubic feet would have enough household items to fit in a 20-foot truck.

Now that the size of the truck is out of the way, you would then have to decide the best time of the year that you should move. If the decision is out of your hands, then you don’t have a choice but to move whenever your landlords give you notice. However, if your moving time period is left up to you, then you should try to book the rental truck as soon as possible. Also keep in mind that the months of May to September are considered peak moving months as that is the time that most people are trying to move as well. In addition, the end of the month is always a busy time to try to rent a truck as most people choose this time of the month to move so as to avoid having to pay their apartment rental for another month.

Finally if you do not have the moving equipment that you need, some of the companies that you rent from would be happy to rent you a few dollies and other moving equipment for a reasonable price of $15 daily. It would also be in your best interest to purchase moving insurance as well, which you can also get from your moving truck rental company.

If you are agonizing over moving your futon, then don’t, for although it is heavy furniture that might be challenging for a do-it-yourself move, it can be something quite easy to do and all it would take is to take the futon apart piece by piece.

Before you start moving the furniture you would need to have an Allen wrench, pliers, large pieces of cardboard that are around 11” W x 36” L, two moving blankets and an extra pair of hands or two, depending on how large the futon is.

One of the first things that you have to do when moving a futon is to remove its covering. The purpose of removing the covering is to protect it from getting soiled or damaged during the moving process. Once you unzip the covers you should put it away safely in a plastic bag or maybe you can get one of the futon bags that are sold at the department stores for less than 15 dollars.

Using your Allen wrench, start taking the futon apart by loosening the arm bolts. You should have four bolts in your hand after removing them from the futon. Along with the bolts are barrel nuts which house the bolts. They should also be placed in a labeled sandwich bag and in a safe place.

The next step would be to remove the futon’s seat and back decks while it is in a flat position. The decks are usually disassembled in two halves so your next move is to remove both decks from the transmission clips which hold them together. After removing the clips you should also place them in a labeled sandwich bag for reassembling. The arms of the futon are attached to the stretcher and this is what you would be moving next.

You can do by removing the bolts that connect the arm to the stretch by holding the arm in a vertical position while the stretcher is in a horizontal position. Once detached from the stretchers, lay the arms with the insides facing each other and then you can begin to tightly tape them together making sure that the front and back legs are also touching each other. When you have completed this task, you can wrap the arms in the blanket.

For the stretches you can tape them at the top and bottom and place them on the front edge of the decks. Now take the cardboard pieces and after creasing them lengthways to form a U shape, tape them to the slated decks. The decks should be in an upright position as the tape should be adhered to the lower slate of the deck.

After closing on your new home, the next step that you should plan is relocation. It is more than just moving your goods to the new residence. You should prepare in advance particularly if you are planning for do-it-yourself move. Among the important causes, many people want to manage the moving process by themselves because of the moving costs. Do-it-yourself moving option also gives more command over the situation.

The most important thing you need to do is to start planning in advance. Planning always makes matters effortless. Moving plan is very helpful particularly if you are not moving immediately. Plan what to take with you and what to leave behind. Start packing those items that you will no longer use in your current home. These are your gardening tools and other outdoor equipment. You may as well begin packing your extra draperies, bedspreads and pillows.

Before start packing your goods you will need some moving boxes. There are always some sources of free boxes. You may ask family and friends who have recently moved for used boxes. Another option is to call local moving companies as they might have used moving boxes. Of course, you can always purchase new boxes from packaging stores.

Apart from packing, you have other tasks too. You need to call your bank, utility companies and change over service addresses, and schedule installation of service. You do not want to move in to a home without a power or running water.

If you plan on moving yourself, check out the phone books and call truck rental companies. Inquire for their rental prices so that you are able to compare. They may have special deals that you can take advantage of. Provide all important info so they will know where you are moving from and where you are moving to. Write down their contact details. Later on contact the company you want.

Moving is never an easy process, however, if you prepare in advance, everything will go smoothly. Keep in mind to pack your items consistently, rent a moving van that accommodates your need and offers the best value. After taking care of the above mentioned tasks, ask your family and friends who’s available to help you on the scheduled date.

Moving a pool table is not an easy task, regular slate pool table weighs about 800-1000 lbs. Keep in mind you will not be able to move it alone. Before you even start planning the moving process, gather a few friends to help you with this task. Now that you have extra hands, it’s time to find out how to move a pool table.

You can’t move a slate pool table in one piece; the first step is taking apart the pool table. In order to complete this process efficiently, you need to have a staple puller and a flat head screwdriver. First, you need to remove the staples from the pockets. Then, unscrew the bolts from the railings. There should be 3 bolts in each rail. Once the bolts are off, you should be able to remove the rails easily.

Once the railings are removed, carefully flip the table over because the pockets can break down. When the table is flipped, you can easily remove the pockets.

The next step is to remove the felt off the top of the pool table. Most felts are either glued or stapled to the top. Start removing the felt slowly and gently and set it to the side when you are completely done.
Average pool table has 3 slates, the final step is to remove those slates from the frame of the table. The slates are screwed to the frame on each corner. The screws are covered by beeswax in order to have a flat surface. Remove the beeswax, so you can use a screwdriver or power drill and caution when removing these screws.

Even though the pool table has been taken apart, it still weighs around 800-1,000 lbs. Make sure you have a truck that can handle that much weight.

If this is something that you can’t handle yourself, there are many professional moving companies that specialize in pool tables. The average charge for this type of service is $300-500.

A few weeks before moving from your current location you may have a room full of boxes and just don’t know how to start filling them. It especially becomes complicated when you have a variety of box sizes; just what do you pack and in which box? It is times like these that you get to appreciate movers and the way they pack because packing is one of those jobs that must be done with great precision or else you would live to regret the way you pack on moving day.

If your time is limited and you have a lot of moving money to play around with then you should think about paying the few extra dollars for the moving company to send their employees out to pack up your household items. Without money on your side but a lot of time available, here are a few ways in which you can start getting those boxes filled up and ready for moving.

As you commence your packing project keep in mind that sensible packing is what you are striving for. When it comes to boxes, moving gurus would tell you that bigger isn’t always necessarily better. Why you may ask? Because when you are packing items in a large box you tend to pack in more items than is allowed at times and this could cause the box to fall apart when lifted due to how heavy it is. Never underestimate the use of small and medium size boxes. Small boxes are ideal for packing a kitchen, items such as photos that are yet to make it to the photo album, magazines, greeting cards and even books. Your medium sized boxes on the other hand can be used for carrying the majority of your household items (evenly distributed of course) such as stuffed toys, clothing, shoes, etc.

For packing items such as bedspreads, your linens and draperies, they should all fit nicely in those large boxes that you may have. As you begin packing, make it a rule to always place the heavier items at the bottom of the box followed by the lighter items just so as not to damage your box. As you go along packing, you can pretty much mix the heavy with the light until your moving box is ready to be sealed. Try not to exceed 50 pounds in weight when you pack though, since this can only mean the box is overweight which could eventually break when lifted. Finally, as you seal your boxes, be sure to use a generous amount of tape and reinforce with two to three layers of it just to be sure that all your items stay safely inside the box.
